Reno to San Francisco. :) :) :)

"Are you going to San Francisco?''

Morning Sunrise from the Van
Outside Reno (no contacts!)

Why yes, yes we are.  I am writing this on the 9th and we came into the great city of SF on the 7th.) So I'm writing this in present tense. I'm from the future... (evil laughter...)
Back to the trip, we drove from Reno through Tahoe into Sacramento, then through Berkeley, past Oakland and over the Bay Bridge into San Francisco.

After a long, stressful night(mainly the indecisiveness of Sheldon and I on where to go) Sheldon and I camped just outside the city of Reno. A fine dirt parking lot at that. The night was somewhat chilly as we were at the base of the Sierra Nevada's. Her snow-covered peaks overshadowed us the whole night. We took a different route than the 80 and ventured off into the Sierras that morning wanting to see Lake Tahoe. The Different route could not have been more rewarding. After climbing thousands of feet into the mountains, passed snow drifts and ski resorts, we came across the breathtaking view of Lake Tahoe. The majesty of the lake and its vast size was quite amazing. The snowy pines surrounded a deep blue mass above which hovered grey pillowy clouds and fog. Wonderful sight. We passed into the California border with no hassle. Drove through Donner's pass and into the sun. Cali brought Sun and warmth.

Into Cali we dropped out of the mountains into a pleasant city called Vacaville, my favorite place of the trip so far. Great city with a very welcoming downtown area. Clean, orderly and refined. We had lunch (Cheesey Top Ramen, and a can of tuna fish), washed from a water spout at a gas station and headed to Sacramento.

Sacramento was short-lived and we only passed by. Took a cool picture of the building skyline.

Passed Berkeley, Oakland, the Bay Bridge and into San Francisco! We came into the city totally confused, dodging traffic, and trying to take it all in. So much was going on. So much diversity. So different. There was no "model" to fit, no mold to conform to. Every and any type of person was in existence. It was so beautiful. The hustle and bustle of city life was welcoming. It was a breath of fresh air. We wandered aimlessly through the city and happened to find a parking* spot next to the SF City Park. We strolled through the park and saw many sights, then decided to catch the sunset at the beach. What an amazing sight. The sun setting on a golden ocean, seagulls soaring through the air, sand between the toes, the hypnotic craxhsing of the waves, the cool ocean air filling the lungs... Ecstasy.
The sun set and we headed to Fishermans' Wharf in the evening to get some grub. Hooter's was the destination because of some free food and the great view... Of the ocean that is. We were right on the pier overlooking the ocean. Street vendors, homeless folk. We played our guitars for a bit on the street, but both of us had a guitar string break so we decided to call it a night. We drove to our camping spot and slept just off the beach in the prowess of the Golden Gate bridge.

*Parking in SF is a long, uninteresting joke that goes on for hours and eventually leads to a sad, intolerable punch line. If you can find parking, praise the lord. It is almost impossible sometimes to find a spot near your desired location. Free parking is almost unheard of. Parking garages range in price of $10 to $30, even basing it on an hourly fee. So crazy. Especially coming from Fairview where you can park literally anywhere without having any competition for the space, excluding July 24th. Even then a block or two walk and you're golden. Not in SF. To get where I am now, I had to walk 5 blocks. But I don't mind it.
